THE CAN’T GET-AWAY CLUB / 2013
installation, Galveston Artist Residency, Galveston, TX
Davide Savorani’s The Can’t Get – Away Club at the Galveston Artist Residency is a project that takes the form of a four part showcase: a miniature gallery housed in the main exhibition space, an installation in the artist’s studio, a documentary feature in a photograph-filled publication, and a blog where the artist chronicles his process and presents digital media.
Within this display, Savorani has created complex narratives, conveyed through drawings, photography, sculpture, video, and animation.
The banana works as a common denominator of the whole project, a subject taken from the artist’s daily routine and turned into a medium through which he explores over-arching themes of geographic isolation, inability of communication, boredom, as much as language and the process of translation and transmission.
